In order to assist Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has given DESMI RO-CLEAN A/S a sizable marine equipment supply contract for the "Supply and Delivery of 10 Sargassum Workboats" Enhancing regional capacity to manage the increasing environmental challenge of sargassum seaweed accumulation that impacts coastal communities and the blue economy is the goal of the USD 2,556,500 contract.

Scope of the Contract
Ten specialised workboats intended for the collection, transportation, and management of sargassum seaweed along Caribbean coastlines will be manufactured, supplied, and delivered by DESMI RO-CLEAN A/S as part of this agreement.
By distributing these boats throughout Barbados and other Eastern Caribbean islands, local authorities will be able to lessen the negative effects that frequent sargassum blooms have on the environment, tourism, and fisheries.
